HigherEdRisk Goes to DC

✈️ HigherEdRisk is on the road again, this time to DC for <a target="_self" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="text-primary underline cursor-pointer XAIccGRXYGJrKwyyJYDCGhNgTWY " href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/association-of-governing-boards-of-universities-and-colleges/">AGB (Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges)</a>'s "Mission Before Politics" event. The topic could not have been more timely, and the conversations were even better. I met so many interesting people who genuinely care about the future of higher education, and it showed in every discussion. A few things that stuck with me: Boards and trustees are wrestling with what it really means to avoid political interference, how critical it is to truly understand fiduciary responsibility, and the need for more training in this area. 🤔 The connection between education and local economies came up often. This one resonates with me because it is genuinely bipartisan. It has real potential to be a bridge-builder at a time when we need more of this kind of conversation to move higher education forward. Speakers also discussed cross-functional collaboration, what it takes to build an engaged and qualified board, and the discipline required to keep boards focused on strategy rather than drifting into operations.
